One Last Time

The band officially performed its last show on Saturday night at Sparsh, exactly one year after its first performance at the same venue. The same crazy venue with its crazy acoustics and resulting sound issues. This time around, the left hand side of the stage went dead...which meant the guitarits could not be heard, which meant we had to halt for a couple of minutes to figure out what was wrong (nope, no luck with that), which meant we had to change our original song list, but in the end we still had a rocking time. "Last Kiss" was beautiful but the crowd preferred "Alice"...easy familiarity I guess. Requests for the "Sutta Song" led to some interesting observations. The crowd which a moment back was full throatedly belting out the "Alice" refrain would not join in with Amrit during the "Sutta Song". Apparently the English F word is more polite and suited to female company than the Hindi N word!!

The after party rocked. A closet-ed Guru Dutt movie song lover came out in the open, the very, very happy and red lead singer went home half way through, secrets were shared and college stories swapped...for a moment there (out on the balcony) it almost felt like we were back in college. After one year of exhilarating highs and a few lows we were officially disbanding and this was one helluva of a way to go - with a bang. Over the course of a year some original band members left, new members joined and a guest from the other side of the pond was roped in to perform. Sunday evening jamming sessions were fun and someday, when the bread and butter issues of graduating and finding a job are done with, Antardhwani will play again. And Alap and Amrit will sing the "Dooli pe Bithaonga" number and for the next after event there will be more of those to pass along. So long then...

PS: The Great Bong and moi won both the Antakshari and India quiz at the above event.

WHAT Hindi N word? Do tell!

In other news, congratulations are in order. Saw the pics. Happy being married!

In yet other news, your post on friends' gangs made me pretty nostalgic, too. I'm so so bad at staying in touch.

The Marauder's Map:I think its the Nangoo word...there I said it and tried to make it cute too!!!
Thanks for the wishes...the deed is done and all is well with the world.
Being bad at staying in touch is so different from moving away. The first is excusable and leaves you with sepia toned feelings, the second is just plain sad...

So there is a decent Desi quizzing scene out here is it? All i knew was that some guys at Ann Arbor had started a quizzing club which was pretty good, apart from that zilch. But anyway congrats on the double.
